This holiday is forever inscribed in the historical record as a symbol of the triumph of justice and the realization of our people's inalienable right to self-determination and free, sovereign development.
In 1992–1993, demonstrating of unparalleled heroism, resilience, and unity, the Abkhaz people decisively repelled Georgia's armed aggression. During those trying times we relied on the support of our brothers—volunteers from the North Caucasus and Southern Russia, as well as members of the Abkhaz diaspora abroad. We hold in sacred reverence the memory of the fallen heroes who sacrificed themselves for the sake of peace in Abkhazia. Their feat will never be forgotten.
Over the past three-plus decades, the Republic of Abkhazia—despite attempts at political diktat, a years-long blockade, and efforts by external forces to isolate it—has convincingly demonstrated its viability as an independent state.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Abkhazia continues to consistently expand the scope of its international contacts, building bilateral relations with states that share the principles of multipolarity and non-interference in internal affairs.
Amidst this complex multipolar dialogue, the comprehensive development of a strategic alliance with the Russian Federation remains the fundamental vector of Abkhazia’s foreign policy. The historic decision to recognize the state independence of the Republic of Abkhazia ushered in a new era for our people, securing reliable guarantees of peace and stability.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Abkhazia congratulates all compatriots on Victory and Independence Day!
